Alumni Global Contest: design the alumni network of your dreams
Join this workshop to shape the next generation oikos Alumni network! Take part to try out the contest and provide feedback. The contest is global, inclusive and collaborative by design.  Every member of our community can participate and share their vision on how they would see the ideal alumni network. In the worshop, I'll explain the template, how it works. You'll be given time to fill it and you'll be able to upload your vision on our webpage, making it visible for the whole network. Then, we'll let the magic happen and let the oikos community validate the best ideas! You wish to help to improve the tool? Join this workshop and have a direct impact on oikos!
Additonally, the last half hour could be used for having a discussion on transparency. We wish to go more transparent in oikos and this could be very interesting to discuss. What does it mean, what does it take, how to implement that digitally.

How does saving patients cost the planet?
The idea is to introduce Healthcare to the oikos-sphere and make it an accessible and open dialogue for all, and the reason: everyone is a stakeholder in the healthcare sector in some capacity. It begs the question of effectively saving people’s lives at the cost of the environment in several different ways and what we could do to make it more sustainable. The workshop hopes to identify a few critical problems based on personal experiences of its participants, explore factors that contribute to these problems, and as a multi-disciplinary participant group, figure out how to approach solving them, perhaps with the help of Design Thinking. The goal is to bring healthcare into the conversation and approach it as outsiders, and hopefully, provoke at least a participant or two into action.

Is sustainable consumption a luxury good?
Everybody is talking about sustainability and many people want to make their consumption habits more sustainable. New stores catering to this need are popping up and existing retailers expand their assortment with sustainable alternatives. But most of these organic / fair-trade / locally sourced / etc. products are more expensive than convential alternatives. Not a problem for anyone with a well-paid job but what about the increasing share of the (Swiss) population with a tight budget? At least 8.2% of the inhabitants in Switzerland are living below or at the poverty line (up from 7.5%). Can they still afford to buy sustainable products? Is it a luxury to be able to live a sustainable life?

In this workshop, we will explore with a practical exercise what it means to try to live a sustainable lifestyle with a tight budget and discuss the implications. What (product) options do we have when sustainable purchases are the noble goal but "buying enough to survive" is the hard reality? How can we live as sustainable as possible on a small budget? And what could be done to avoid making sustainability a thing for people only?

Finding common ground in visionary business sustainability projects
Limited Capacity seats available

In this session  you will learn about modern social technologies like U-Theory, Visual Scribing and Art of Hosting. We will experience together how safe and trustworthy spaces in multi-stakeholder sustainability projects could (and should) look and FEEL like. Jan Maisenbacher will share his experiences how he initialised and facilitates visionary collaboration projects in business beyond classical project management techniques. After this short input the group will dive deeper in a generative dialogue around the question « What wicked business sustainability challenges want to be solved within participatory formats?». The objective of the session is to harvest the collective intelligence of the participants. Preferably we will dig up real-life transformative interventions in current multi-stakeholder sustainability projects.

Green electricity: opportunities and challenges
Green energy is THE topic of the future decades. If we still want to travel and to communicate the way we do, we will need (more and more and more) of it. This is what you can read in your newspaper and listen in the news.
In this workshop, we will not only learn about the good old energy system and the place of renewable energy in it but also raise some points about electrification nowadays. We will then focus on green electricity and on the new trend of electric mobility.

Encouraging solution-oriented action through campaigns using empirical data
Limited Capacity seats available

The scientific consensus on anthropogenic global warming is overwhelming. The possible consequences and the steps necessary to avoid them are well known. Yet, the actions undertaken fail to initiate sufficient change.
To close this gap between theory and practice this workshop seeks to provide you with the knowledge and tools necessary to communicate your scientific facts and knowledge in a way that encourages solution-oriented action.
The workshop is split into two parts: the first one focuses on communication concepts that can be used to encourage solution-oriented action and the second one on how to communicate empirical data. Both parts contain an input, a section and a discussion section that allow you to apply the knowledge from the inputs and discuss the results with others.

New Ways of Working - enabling sustainable business
“The tension between organizations optimized for predictability and the unpredictable world they inhabit has reached a breaking point.” responsive.org

We, therefore, need new ways of doing business if we want to create innovative and sustainable solutions for the 21st century. In this experience-based workshop, we are looking at the interplay of organizational structures, sustainability, mindset and change management. The focus is on how meaningful structures can be created so that both individual and collective potential can be unfolded to allow innovative solutions for sustainable development to emerge.

The participants learn how mindset, organizational structures, and purpose interrelate, what new understanding of collaboration is essential and how a transformation towards networked systems can be promoted. The key concepts we will be using are the following:
  • Theory U by Otto Scharmer
  • Teal Organizations by Frédéric Laloux
  • Radical Collaboration by Jim Tamm
